Con Edison Rainey Substation 345KV Gas Insulated Switchgear
This project consisted of the installation of 345KV Gas Insulated Switchgear at the Con Edison Rainey Substation. A 345kV aerial transmission line feeds gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) arranged in a ring-bus configuration. Work included the installation of 362KV circuit breakers, bus sections, local control cabinets, cable installation along with testing and commissioning.
Due to the outage-related work, the project schedule was compressed to include working 2 shifts a day, 7 days a week.
Project Highlight – Con Edison Rainey Substation 345KV Gas Insulated Switchgear
One of Verde Electric’s recent utility projects involved the installation of 345KV Gas Insulated Switchgear at the Con Edison Rainey Substation in Queens, NY, for Hitachi Energy (Con Edison Rainey Substation). This project was critical in supporting the high-voltage transmission needs of the New York City grid.
Scope of Work:
- Installation of 345KV GIS: The project involved the installation of gas-insulated switchgear arranged in a ring-bus configuration, supported by a 345KV aerial transmission line. This provided enhanced reliability and reduced spatial requirements compared to traditional air-insulated switchgear.
- Circuit Breaker and Bus Section Installation: We installed 362KV circuit breakers, bus sections, and local control cabinets, along with power cable installation to ensure efficient energy distribution.
- Compressed Schedule: Due to the outage-related nature of the project, our team worked two shifts a day, seven days a week, to meet a compressed project timeline.
- Testing and Commissioning: The entire system underwent thorough testing and commissioning to ensure operational integrity and compliance with Con Edison’s stringent requirements.
